NO TIME TO DIE sees the return of Daniel Craig’s James Bond 007, according to the title announcement, so what does this mean for Lashana Lynch’s Nomi who is allegedly the new 007?
James Bond 25 finally has a title in No Time To Die. EON Productions made the announcement through the official James Bond social media channels yesterday, with a short teaser video of Daniel Craig back in his dinner jacket. The tweet read: “Daniel Craig returns as James Bond, 007 in… NO TIME TO DIE. Out in the UK on 3 April 2020 and 8 April 2020 in the US. #Bond25 #NoTimeToDie.” Interestingly, this official message says that James Bond is still 007.
This may surprise some Bond fans considering the leak earlier this summer that Lashana Lynch’s Nomi has become the new 007. No, not the new James Bond, but an agent who has taken on the MI6 Double-O codename now that Craig’s Bond has retired. After all, the official synopsis reads: “James Bond has left active service when his friend Felix Leiter enlists his help in the search for a missing scientist.
“When it becomes apparent that the scientist was abducted, Bond must confront a danger the likes of which the world has never seen before.”
So what does this mean for Nomi being 007? Well, there’s a couple of possibilities. Firstly, No Time To Die may begin before Bond officially relinquishes his 007 status. However, the problem with this theory is that he kind of already did that in Spectre’s closing scene. Another option is that we will see two 007s existing simultaneously in No Time To Die.
Perhaps Bond will retire and Nomi take up the 007 mantle, but then with Craig’s spy being called back into action maybe he becomes 007 again? Or maybe he’s just been called James Bond 007 to cut the scent of the alleged leak that Nomi now has his Double-O position? Hopefully, more will become clear when the first trailer for No Time To Die lands.
